Marilyn Manson
Marilyn Manson blasted shock-rock into the 90's mainstream in much the same way Alice Cooper did in the 70's. With help in the production department by Trent Reznor, the band established themselves as a gothic industrial rock band in Portrait of an American Family and Antichrist Superstar, and then moved on in the direction of glam rock for Mechanical Animals.
The name Marilyn Manson, used to refer to both the band as a whole and their frontman Brian Warner, is derived from the names of Hollywood superstar Marilyn Monroe and serial killer Charles Manson. This formula is used to name most of the several band members who have come and gone, for example, Daisy Berkowitz, Sara Lee Lucas, Twiggy Ramirez and Olivia Newton Bundy. The polar opposites combined to form each name suggest that there are two sides, light and dark, to every person.
Marilyn Manson have always been controversial with religious groups, authorities and parents. They have had concerts blocked and have been blamed as the inspiration behind acts of murder by over-zealous fans.
