Hole
Fronted by the charismatic and controversial singer/guitarist Courtney Love, Hole served up quasi-pop songs distorted by slightly out of tune singing and a disdain for conformity. The band formed in 1989 and found mainstream success with the Geffen label in the early 90s. Courtney Love was married to Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, and their at times difficult relationship was often open to public scrutiny. In 1994 Cobain committed suicide, leaving behind Love and their young daughter, Frances Bean. The same year, Hole's bassist Kristen Pfaff died of a drug overdose. With time, the band overcame these difficulties and continued to record & perform, eventually disbanding in 2002.
